Most of us lament how reckless and drunken traffic in GTA Online has become, even if we're not running from cops, gangs, or doing an import job. Just driving around peacefully in a solo session you have to be constantly watching every car around you to avoid major collisions.
I really wish Rockstar would do something about that, but it shouldn't stop there. Here are some things that could be done about traffic that would freshen up the game some (IMO):
Variety There only seem to be about a dozen discreet models of vehicle present at any time, sometimes less. We should see more cars at a time, especially DLC cars.
Surprises Aside from the malicious NPC drivers, traffic is pretty boring. The only time it's entertaining is when something glitches, and even then it's mostly two cars stuck together because neither is smart enough to back up and go around. In SP, though, you can see police chases and shootouts. They should add those, plus things like:
- two NPCs racing motorcycles in the countryside at night;
- impromptu NPC car shows (like that Import mission);
- drag races down in Vagos territory;
Realism Not only does it not look realistic to see a parking lot with Mesas in it, and no other car, but it's stupid that they're all parked in random spaces. Increase the density closer to wherever the people there would be.
They're good about putting certain cars in certain areas, but that could be cleaned up some more. You see cheap junkers parked in front of Rockford Hills homes, shiny suburban cars in Sandy Shores, high-end sports cars in Strawberry, etc.
Other little touches would be: a limo parked at the casino entrance, more sports and supers cruising Vinewood Blvd at night, ambient lowriders in Davis and La Mesa, Kalaharis in the Vespucci Beach & Canals area, full parking lots at churches on Sunday, full parking lots at the amphitheaters on Friday or Saturday nights (with NPCs in the seats, maybe some kind of play or concert on stage).
Refresh Import Cars It's safe to assume a significant number of Import/Exporters are aware of the method to only source Top Range cars. It's awesome to only make the most amount you can from I/E, but it's kind of boring. I had more fun when I first collected one of each, and again when I exported and sourced my way into having all the Collections. It's time to shake those up a bit.
Easter Eggs One of the most fun aspects of vehicles in this game is sourcing rare cars. Almost everyone is familiar with gang cars and all the modded cars you can farm for cash, but there are more subtly rare cars out there. Some of us will camp out or drive for circles inside a contact mission for
hours just to nab a Sadler with a bed cover, a clean Rebel with the roof lights, or a Mesa without a coffee cup on the dash, etc. Before getting into "modded colors," my last obsession was with satin ("worn") cars - but I have them all.
I want some new rare and interesting cars to hunt for, but not as part of some new game mode. Just put them in freemode with no fanfare or announcement. In fact, how about ...
"Smuggled" Cars I can't think of another way to describe this, but Rockstar should find a way to add new vehicles to GTA Online that can't be spoiled by the PC guys. Best I can come up with is that they silently release them into PS4 and Xbox One, then PC later. (Sorry, guys,
Instead of these being new Super and Sports cars, they should be more like the Mesa, Ruiner, etc. - cars that can only be stolen and stored.
If they could come with decent modifications, that would be great, but even if they were no better or modifiable than a Vapid Stanier, how cool would it be to discover one of the
many GTA IV cars not in GTA V roaming around the map?
More Satin / Worn Finished Cars For those unfamiliar, if you take any of the eight beater versions of the Tornado or Voodoo to Benny's and do the lowrider upgrade, it will reveal a special finish. I like to call it "satin" more than "worn", but it's dull like matte colors, but with a smoother texture. Additionally, the colors are unique, you can't change the color before conversion to get a satin/worn version of another one, and if you change the "worn" color, it's gone forever.
There are still several cars in GTA Online that are "beaters" that don't have clean versions, and those should be among the next ones to be added to Benny's (including one of those "smuggled" cars). If I was suddenly Rockstar's VP of Make This Shit for GTA Online, these would be part of a Hot Rodding DLC, focusing entirely on highly-customizable show cars.
Things to Change or Eliminate - If they're not going to refresh the Simeon export lists, improve the payouts, or give us an option to turn them off, get rid of them.
